FAQ and Resources
Who is the ISO 22301 Business Continuity Management System Transition Training suitable for?
It is intended for professionals working in business continuity, crisis management, risk, information technology, operations, supply chain, management systems and auditing within organisations implementing the ISO 22301 Business Continuity Management System, who will be responsible for transition or update activities.
What is the main objective of the training?
The objective is to enable participants to understand the current ISO 22301 requirements, identify the updates required in the existing Business Continuity Management System and effectively plan the organisation's preparations for the new ISO 22301 revision.
Has the new version of ISO 22301 been published?
No. The current published core standard is ISO 22301:2019. Work on the third-edition revision is at the development stage, and the new version has not yet been published as a final International Standard.
What change was introduced by ISO 22301:2019/Amd 1:2024?
The amendment emphasised that organisations must determine whether climate change is a relevant issue within their context and consider that interested parties may have requirements related to climate change.
Should the new draft requirements be applied to the existing system immediately?
No. The ISO 22301 revision under development may change before it is published. Organisations may monitor the revision work in preparation; however, mandatory transition activities should be determined after the final standard and the relevant transition rules have been published.
Does the Business Impact Analysis (BIA) need to be reviewed?
The organisation should review whether its Business Impact Analysis remains current and adequate when significant changes occur in its activities, products and services, resources, dependencies, technologies or external environment. It is also beneficial to evaluate the existing BIA systematically during transition preparations.
Should business continuity plans be updated?
The plans must be aligned with the current organisational structure, prioritised activities, resource requirements, contact details, dependencies and current threats. Plans and procedures should be updated according to the needs identified through the gap analysis.
Should a gap analysis be conducted for the transition?
Yes. Comparing the existing Business Continuity Management System against current requirements and those to be published in the future helps to identify areas that are deficient or require improvement and to plan transition activities.
Has the deadline for transitioning to the new version been determined?
No. As the new edition of ISO 22301 has not yet been published, the official transition period and deadline have not been determined. The transition timetable will become clear once the final standard and the relevant transition rules have been published.
Does the training include practical exercises?
Yes. The training includes practical exercises covering Business Impact Analysis, risk assessment, disruption and crisis scenarios, business continuity strategies, plan and exercise evaluations, climate change scenarios, gap analysis and transition preparation plans.
Is there an examination at the end of the training?
Yes. An assessment examination is administered at the end of the training.
