FAQ and Resources

Who is the ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System Transition Training suitable for?

It is intended for professionals working in occupational health and safety, risk management, human resources, operations, management systems and auditing in organisations implementing ISO 45001, who will be responsible for implementing the current ISO 45001 requirements.

What is the main objective of the training?

The objective is to enable participants to understand the changes introduced by ISO 45001:2018/Amd 1:2024, identify the updates required in the existing Occupational Health and Safety Management System and plan compliance activities effectively.

What changes have been made by ISO 45001:2018/Amd 1:2024?

As part of the amendment, a new requirement has been added to Clause 4.1 for the organisation to determine whether climate change is a relevant issue, while a note has been added to Clause 4.2 stating that relevant interested parties may have requirements related to climate change.

Why should climate change be considered in relation to ISO 45001?

Climate change may affect the OHS management system through issues such as extreme temperatures, severe weather events, air quality, natural disasters, working conditions, worker health and operational continuity. ISO and IAF state that the purpose of the amendment is to ensure that climate change is not overlooked in relation to the effectiveness of the management system.

Do existing risk assessments need to be updated?

The organisation should assess whether climate change is relevant to its context and activities. If it is found to be relevant, it should review whether hazard identification, risk and opportunity assessment, operational controls and emergency plans are affected.

Has the new version of ISO 45001 been published?

Not yet. According to ISO records, the new ISO 45001 revision is under development with ISO/DIS 45001 status. Therefore, the requirements of the final new version should not be regarded as having been published.

Does the training include practical activities?

Yes. The training includes climate change and OHS risk scenarios, a gap analysis of the existing system, risk assessment, process and documentation updates, case studies and practical exercises in preparing a compliance plan.
